What is Gabardine Fabric?

  • Gabardine is a tightly woven fabric comprising several varieties of worsted, cotton, and silk fibers.
  • Gabardine fabric is woven with twill weave.
  • Best-quality gabardine uses two-ply worsted yarns, however single-worsted yarns, two-ply, and single woolen yarns are also used.
  • Gabardine has a dull sheen.
  • Overworking when ironing or pressing might produce a shine on the fabric.

  • They can also be hand-washed or placed on a low heat setting in the dryer.
  • Set a warm iron on the lowest setting to do a quick press.
  • Advisable to dry clean gabardine blends with a high percentage of worsted wool to prevent shrinkage.
  • Extra work during ironing or applying extra pressure can create a shine in the fabric.
